Gymnastics offers many benefits to participants, ranging from physical fitness and gross motor development to safety and self confidence. It is a great base for many other sports, and allows participants to learn in a safe environment under the watchful eye of certified instructors. Gymnastics is great for all ages, and provides a strong foundation for athletes in other sports, or wanting to try other sports. Gymnasts can be a recreational athlete and progress through the Cangym program, be invited into an achievement program, or be part of a demonstration team. There is something for everyone in the sport of gymnastics, and it is a great way to develop body and spatial awareness, while challenging yourself on each apparatus.
The Grande Prairie Gymniks offers many programs including competitive women’s, unisex recreational programs involving classes for babies up to adults, as well as rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline and tumbling programs, skipping, ladies fitness, and pre-school dance. It houses a full set of men’s and women’s gymnastics equipment, as well a trampolines and an official tumbling strip. The large main clear span gym is 26,000 sq. ft. and is dedicated to gymnastics. The gym is housed in the Grande Prairie Gymnastics Centre, a 55,000 sq. ft., multi use facility that also includes a 2,000 sq. ft. hardwood sprung floor dance room, fitness and weight training area, physiotherapy services, as well as multi-purpose rooms available for rent to the public.
